At this time we are only accepting events that occur after: 06/06/2013.

Use this form to include a brief description of the event or artist, date, price, time, venue address and phone number, preferably in the format of our listings. Incomplete submissions will not be listed; due to space constraints, inclusion in the calendar is not guaranteed. Deadline is Thursday, 5:00 p.m. two weeks prior to the issue date in which the listing would appear. Space does not permit listing advance notices. To be considered for more extensive write-up, please include artwork (300 dpi high quality digital images).

How to get your listing in:

The don'ts:

  • Don't use the first person, as in "We are offering music and food."
  • Don't say your band/event is the "greatest thing in town" or similar-- just the facts, ma'am.
  • Don't capitalize normal words like "rock" "or "classic" or "show."
  • Don't use all caps for anything, ever.
  • Don't use exclamation marks.
  • Don't use quotation marks.
  • Don't use an ampersand: "&" (use "and" instead)

The do's:

  • Be brief and to the point.
  • Tell us what it is, not how it is.
  • Use the present tense: "the show happens" not "the show will happen."

YES:

Event Name: Roger Wilco

Short Description: Tap dancer Wilco is accompanied by bluegrass band the Purple Mountain Boys.

NO:

Event Name: ROGER WILCO

Short Description: We will feature the Fun & Fantastic tap dancing of Wilco. It will be performed with "Live Music" by the PURPLE MOUNTAIN BOYS.

There are many things that the Valley Advocate does not list. It is not because we have anything against these events, just that there are simply too many of them and not enough space to print all of them. Items we DO NOT LIST include:

  • Events outside of Western Mass. (except Brattleboro, VT)
  • Events that cost more than $40
  • Events held at private residences
  • Church services/religious/spiritual events
  • Yoga
  • Pot-luck suppers, church suppers, etc.
  • Sporting Events
  • "Classes" that exceed four (4) instances

IF YOUR VENUE IS NOT LISTED IN THE DROP-DOWN MENU:

1) Make sure it's not under "THE IRON HORSE" instead of "IRON HORSE."
2) Your event is not held at a PRIVATE RESIDENCE.
3) Email your new venue to: tsturm@valleyadvocate.com
