This Week, By the Numbers

posted by Sarah Werthan Buttenwieser

By the numbers, we subtracted one teen on Sunday (he returns today; he visited his grandparents).

We lost four wisdom teeth on Monday (the eldest teen, to be specific).

We gained, in visitors, numerous teens each of these recuperation days.

We added to our feats for the week the first day of kindergarten (two thumbs up), the first day of fifth grade (“School, really?”).

So, I guess, reluctant, anxious, excited or whatever, we gained a kindergartner and a fifth grader.

We lost sleep, countless hours. What sleep we logged included some fitful hours.

What all this adds up to, I have no idea. I am not a numerical thinker, obviously.

Remy's class is in session; this is his official first day of fifth grade photo; the backpack on the left is his.

Three things on Thursday rather than Tuesday (I’m off):

In light of so much bouncing around the Internet, this thoughtful piece about being hated for your fictional, female character by the wife on Breaking Bad is well worth a read.

I’ve written another piece for Brain Child, this about the idea that Saskia is lucky that she was adopted by us.

Finally, if for whatever reason you’ve never listened to MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech, isn’t this your moment?

Three things I’m grateful for are the four wisdom teeth being safely out, and the teens that came with cheer and all else to keep company this week—awesome people, all—and of course, the kindergartner having now kindergartened.
