About 30 farmers take part in the 38-year-old Amherst Farmers' Market, which manager Sarah Berquist calls a social and community event—with live music and special events like a kids' day—as well as an opportunity to buy fresh, local food (much of it organic). Shoppers come for local fruit, heirloom vegetables, flowers, dairy and meat, among the many offerings. At this year's market, which will run from April 23 to Nov. 20, food stamps and EBT cards will also be accepted.
