It's never a surprise to see multiple generations of families sitting down to a meal at the Student Prince Café. This unique establishment prides itself on its 75-year history of providing patrons with good, home-cooked food. Also known as The Fort, named for the real fort that John Pynchon built in 1660 to defend the fledgling city of Springfield, the place is awash in history—not just in the location but in the food. Classic dishes like sauerbraten, sausage and wienerschnitzel are its stock-in-trade. Meat is cut in-house. Desserts such as strudel and tortes are made by the restaurant's own pastry chef.
