It's difficult to beat out downtown candy powerhouses like Northampton's Sweeties for Best Sweet Shop/Confectioner, but this year Richardson's came out holding the golden ticket. The 55-year-old business, run for approximately 25 years by current owners Barbara Woodward and daughter Katherine Williams, makes its own candy—high-quality chocolate, nut-clusters, "Dixies" (nuts and caramel dipped in chocolate) and, of course, fudge. From May to October they stock Herrell's ice cream, and make their own molds for special seasonal treats like Christmas Santas, Valentine's Day hearts and chocolate Easter bunnies. Want cute? This year, Woodward and her husband have named each of their unique bunny molds after their grandchildren.
