A restaurant that started up in May, 2007—just a season away from the financial meltdown—not only survived but emerges as our winner for Best Polish Restaurant. Using recipes handed down from her mother, the original Sofia, owner Kristina Nikonczyk Beaudry pleases her customers with, among other things, five kinds of pierogi and hearty kapusta, a cabbage dish that incorporates sauerkraut, mushrooms, onions and chunks of spare ribs.
