"We've taken the booking a lot wider at the Calvin over the last few years," says Iron Horse Entertainment Group Marketing Director Jim Neill (The Calvin is one of several prominent local venues in the IHEG stable, including the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton and the new Mountain Park on Mt. Tom.) "We have our comfort zone, as do our core customers, with artists like Patty Griffin, Lyle Lovett, Gaelic Storm; artists who've been baked into the Valley culture over the years. But we're getting bolder and finding new acts and customers on our own and in partnership with local radio and television." The Calvin has had full houses for shows like Playing For Change and Garrison Keillor (in partnership with WGBY-TV and WFCR ). "People have good and sophisticated taste in the Valley, which enables us to book new artists with the confidence that the population is willing to be turned onto something they don't know already," Neill says.
