Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, where every dollar donated gets $9 worth of food, is one of the Valley's most respected helping organizations and has so far gotten support to meet the 8- to 13-percent increase in need that it's experienced over the last year, according to director Andrew Morehouse. One in 10 Massachusetts residents face hunger every day now, according to the Food Bank, which doesn't just disperse dust-gathering, starchy government surplus but garners fresh organic produce from its Food Bank Farm and from a state program that gave it $90,000 during the past year to buy locally grown food products.
