Senior Vice Presidents Sharon Rogalski and Joe Traczynski say it's a great time to be a community bank because in an uncertain economic climate, people can find a place to do business that's closely connected to where they live. "If they have an issue, they can stop in and see us instead of calling an 800 number," says Traczynski. He adds that Florence Savings hasn't had the nonperforming loans that have plagued much larger banks, and now they're seeing the benefits—in the last year, they've seen a lot of growth, especially in commercial banking. FSB also gives away $50,000 to non-profits with its Customer Choice Community Grants.
