Jerry Goldberg and Andrea Livermore (who are, respectively, the heads of the area Chamber of Commerce and Building a Better Brattleboro) are delighted by Brattleboro's win as the best tourist spot in southern Vermont. Central to their mission is making it apparent to visitors that "Brattleboro is an arts town." Since 1995, on the first Friday of each month, the city has been transformed into a giant gallery and art lovers can follow a numbered walk through dozens of restaurants, businesses, theaters, and studios, each with original works on display. Every June (June 6 this year), Main Street is taken over by a parade of strolling heifers, and in October the city hosts nearly 40 authors during its Literature Festival. In February the city re-opened the Harris Hill Ski Jump and held the 85th annual competition, which attracted thousands to see the East Coast's only jump of its kind.
