In his 18 years at R. Michelson Galleries, manager Paul Gulla has enjoyed the chance to work with established artists and watch young artists develop—and so have the gallery's visitors, for whom the staff strives to create a welcoming, comfortable environment. Some come to buy work; others just come to look. "And that's great. [The art's] meant to be enjoyed," Gulla says. Its situation in the arts-rich Valley helps give R. Michelson a special local feel; the gallery carries the work of Valley artists like Leonard Baskin and Barry Moser, and its collection of children's book illustrations features work by many local artists.
