Margi Caplan, membership and marketing director, says the Smith College Art Museum boasts 21,000 objects in its permanent collection, 18,000 of them works on paper. Famous for its collection of world-renowned 19th- and 20th-century art, the museum hosts a lot of school visits, and exists primarily as a "teaching museum." Every second Friday of the month, the facility hosts exhibition openings (4 to 8 p.m., free admission), a free family activity and often a local artist speaking about art.
