"When people ask me why I have the atmosphere that I do," says Donnie Robert, referring to his club, Maximum Capacity, in Chicopee, "I say I have the atmosphere I'd want if I were going out." It is that do-unto-others sensibility—a sensibility that extends to the musicians Robert books to perform at his club—that has helped establish MaxCap as the Valley's premiere rock club/nightclub. A big place with big performance spaces and bars upstairs and downstairs—"We have the best rock club [in the Valley] upstairs and the best nightclub downstairs," Robert says—Maximum Capacity has a reputation for superior sound, thanks in large part to the efforts of local sound tech Pete Garvey.
