"What MassLive is really all about is being local," explains general manager Paul Emery Fritz—whether that means carrying breaking news from its partner, the Springfield Republican, and providing a forum for debate of local issues, or covering local proms and asking users to submit photos of their favorite potholes. "We're all tied to a community. MassLive tries to capture all elements of the community," he says. While—as anyone who's ever logged on to the local forums can tell you—the conversation can be a little rough around the edges, it's a genuine expression of what's going on in the Valley. "I think [the forums] appeal to the town-hall nature of New England,' Emery Fritz says. "People love to talk."
