Smith College Museum of Art has brought rare and beautiful works from around the world to Northampton, featuring 12 to 15 rotating exhibits a year as well as their impressive permanent collections, which include internationally known 19th- and 20th-century art and emerging collections of African, Asian and Latin American art. Many shows feature artists from the community such as Leonard Baskin, Daniel Kelm and Jerome Liebling. The Museum also provides a place for academic and career training for Smith students and student-guided tours for schoolchildren. Free "Second Fridays" feature hands-on activities for families and lectures by local artists, and offer a chance for people to get together and enjoy the museum for free between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m.
