In the manuscripts of Emily Dickinson’s poems are often found lists of words and phrases—variations and alternatives to parts of the text. Inspired by the poet’s perception of multiple possibilities for conveying multifaceted thoughts, The Emily Dickinson Project imagines the multiple Emilies who gave birth to that diversity of expression. Staged at the poet’s Amherst homestead, the piece, created from Dickinson’s lifetime of correspondence by Emma Ayres and Brianna Sloane, employs eight actresses—“variations” of the poet—who take the audience on a tour of the house for a kaleidoscopic glimpse into her life.

June 19-20, Emily Dickinson Homestead, Main St., Amherst. Info at variationsofemily.weebly.com or facebook.com/variationsofemily.
