Stuffed to the brim after enjoying a dinner celebrating their daughter’s engagement to a business competitor’s son, the wealthy Birlings are all rubbing their bellies when Inspector Goole shows up and accuses them of being involved in the murder of a working-class factory girl. As the questioning leads the family to contemplate their possible contribution to the girl’s death, Goole’s motives also become suspect.
