Man, that old website of ours was up for a while, and it wasn’t getting any prettier with time. It was like Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries before Julie Andrews showed up. You’d land on the site and be, like, meh. Thankfully our Web elves have been hard at work. Now, we’re happy to announce our extreme makeover. And boy, is it a wonderland of browsable bliss. Check out the perks:

Mobile-Optimized

Getting the news on your phone shouldn’t be hard. Websites designed to be mobile-friendly (like our new one!) use a simplified layout for vertical scrolling on a small screen. Ever see those people standing on the street hunched over their phones doing little pinchy gestures, like they’re trying to repair a watch? Don’t do that. It’s 2015. Read the Valley Advocate instead.

More Photos

If a picture is worth a thousand words, our old website was worth, like, a couple thousand words. But wow, did that get better, too. Load the site, and boom: elegant photo grid right up top. Click through to read more, or scroll down to browse story photos right alongside the headlines. And if we have a whole bunch of pics for a story, we’ll put the gallery up in a nice clean photo viewer. All because we like you.

Blogs at Your Fingertips

Hover over “Blogs” on the homepage and flip through articles from our extended family of writers. Brave the darkness with Nightcrawler writer Gary Carra. Learn about wine with Warren Johnston in his column Raise Your Glass. Share your sex questions with Yana Tallon-Hicks on the newly rebooted The V-Spot, and more.

Search With Google

Now you can search for content on the Advocate site using the built-in Google search bar. Much more robust than the search function we had before. When it comes to finding that exact article, line, or wacky word you were looking for, we’re now a little better equipped to help you out.

Superpowered Comments

Our comments section is now powered by Disqus, which means you can sign in to comment using not only Facebook, but your Google or Twitter account as well. It’s just like your mama always said: be who you want to be. Also, Disqus provides a clearer system of replying, favoriting, and upvoting, so you never lose your place in the discussion.•
