Double Edge Theatre’s summertime series of family-friendly “traveling spectacles” showcase the company’s interdisciplinary aesthetic—an amalgam of movement theater, world music and circus skills—to produce playful, athletic and stunningly visual twilight extravaganzas. Audiences traverse a five-acre indoor-outdoor stage on the ensemble’s Ashfield farm, following the actors as the episodic story progressively unfolds, from sundown to torchlit finale.

This year’s Shahrazad is a revamped and revisioned revival of last summer’s sold-out hit, featuring “new script, new scenes and new spectacle.” It’s the troupe’s third exploration of the 1,001 Arabian Nights theme, which director Stacy Klein has described as “a love story—the story of a woman who feels that she can change the world.”•

Aug. 7-10 and 13, 8 p.m. $25-$30, Double Edge Theatre, 948 Conway Rd., Ashfield, (866) 811-4111.
