The Paradise City Arts Festival returns this Memorial Weekend with works of jewelry, painting, sculpture, and mixed media from 260 juried artists, plus live music, food, and a silent auction to benefit Cancer Connection. This year’s “Laughing Matters!” themed exhibit features works by Dale Rogers, Roger DiTarando, Mary Coover, Tom Dahlke, and Joanne DeLomba (whose work is pictured), whose art grew from her experience owning and operating a ceramics studio for 25 years.

“I love the new idea of ‘repurposing’ china plates instead of just making more,” DeLomba tells the Advocate, “so I switched gears and began up-cycling the antiques. I am a collector of all sorts of stuff, so hunting antique shops and estate sales is a bonus [and] the smartness of recycling just sweetens the pot!”

“As for the designs,” the Cranston, R.I. artist explains, “well, I’m just a silly person.”
