The Royal Frog Ballet (pictured) is a Montague-based “amoeba of collaborators” who are “committed to the creative manifestation of ideas and issues of the heart and of the land, of the belly and of the town.” How fitting that they should team up with the Rural Academy Theater, a North Carolina-based “collaboration of individuals, two-legged and four, creating theater for primarily rural audiences in response to the growing urbanization of our culture, economy, food, education, media and art.”
This weekend the two groups come together to present The Muck Boot Banquet, a perambulatory “performance and eating event” staged in and around an Easthampton apple orchard. It won’t include RAT’s signature horse-drawn caravan, but do expect songs, flowers, fancy hats, “lusty stories and frolicking nonsense” and spring victuals—“a walking feast of sensations” suitable for all ages. You’re advised to come in mud boots and warm sweaters and to “bring your appetite and umbrella.”
