Former School Committee Members Rally Around Hurst
Well, School Committee member Denise Hurst is certainly bringing out the big guns in her re-election campaign.
Hurst, a first-term at-large member of the committee, is holding a fundraiser this evening at the Cedars banquet hall, where the hosts will include a number of former School Committee members: Beth Conway, Robert McCollum, Carmen Rosa, Tommy Ashe and Ken Shea (the latter two now city councilors), as well as her mother-in-law, Marj Hurst. And Mayor Domenic Sarno, who chairs the School Committee, will deliver the keynote speech.
Hurst is running for one of two at-large seats against fellow incumbent Antonette Pepe and challengers Brenden J. Hammerle and Calvin McFadden. (The outspoken and independent-minded Pepe ticked off some in the city’s political establishment two years ago when she ran a gutsy campaign for mayor against Sarno—a move that might account for some of the big names that are now closing ranks around Hurst.)
Hurst’s husband, Justin, meanwhile, is running for an at-large seat on the City Council.
