The mysterious relationship of the great Russian composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and his great patroness, the wealthy widow Madame Nadezhda Filaretovna von Meck, forms the tantalizing basis for None but the Lonely Heart. The new piece is a guest production at Shakespeare & Company from New York’s Ensemble for the Romantic Century, which specializes in dramas about, and with, music. It’s acted by S&Co veterans Ariel Bock and Jonathan Epstein with an onstage chamber ensemble, and directed by Donald T. Sanders, founder of the Holyoke-based Massachusetts International Festival of the Arts.
