Memorial Day Weekend … Skiing?
Put away the sunscreen, and grab the ski wax. That fickle combination of Mother Nature and Old Man Winter are at it again, getting one last laugh in this season’s December to May (and counting) relationship. Rain down here in the Flatlands will translate to snow in the upper elevations in southern Vermont, working its way up the Green Mountains to otherworldly Jay Peak, where over a foot of snow if expected to fall on its late winter/early summer slopes.
For more info on Jay Peak’s winter revival, check out their webpage: http://www.jaypeakresort.com/skiing-riding/the-mountain/conditions-weather/.
Plus, as The Ski Guru over at the Boston Globe notes, Killington will be spinning its lifts for free today and tomorrow: http://www.boston.com/travel/explorene/specials/ski/blog/2013/05/free_skiing_mem.html.
And for more late season information/inspiration, check out the good folks over at Adventure Skier, who have been hiking to the upper elevation goods all “spring”: http://www.adventureskier.com/.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Northeasterners. And as always, extra points for anyone who hits the slopes after having already started their summer season swimming in the ocean.
