Arise for Social Justice is planning a march on Wednesday in protest of new state eligibility standards for emergency shelter for families who are homeless. (Click here for a recent Advocate article on the regulations.)

The march will begin at noon at Gov. Deval Patrick’s Springfield office at 436 Dwight St., then proceed to the local office of the Dept. of Housing and Community Development, which oversees shelter programs. Marchers will deliver a symbolic 51A form—used to report child abuse and neglect—to DHCD.

In other news, Arise has put out an appeal for toy donations for the children of its low-income members and other kids in the city. The organization had applied for toys through the Toys for Tots program but due to some mix-up got fewer than half the toys needed. If you can help, call (413-734-4948) or email (ariseforsocialjustice@gmail.com) Arise to find out what they need and to arrange a time to drop off a donation at its office, at 467 State St.
