Get into the season with the Springfield Museums’ Holiday Happenings. After the turkey has been put away, jump on board the North Pole Express, where Wayne Martin Puppets embody Frosty, Rudolph and other yuletide favorites. Feast your eyes on fairytale gingerbread creations, painstakingly crafted by professional bakers, students and creative individuals from around the area, and marvel at Ten31 Productions’ winter birch-trees-turned-fantastical living art installations.

As the sun sets, linger for the Lighting of the Quadrangle, where you can keep your hands warm around a cuppa hot cocoa (in the spirit of the season, free coffee, cocoa and cookies will be offered to all) as the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden and the Quadrangle are illuminated for the season. Throughout the evening there will be rides on wagons pulled by rescued draft horses from Blue Star Equiculture Draft Horse Sanctuary, and of course opportunities to have pictures taken with Santa… and the Grinch.

Holiday Happenings: Nov. 23, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Lighting of the Quadrangle: 5-7 p.m., The Springfield Museums, 21 Edwards St., Springfield, (413) 263-6800, www.springfieldmuseums.org.
