Is the NFL on the move toward its own brand of socialism? A study by the North American Association of Sports Economists found that of 28 National Football League stadiums built between 1990 and 2011:
*23 had 50 percent or more of their building costs paid by the public;
*14, or half, had 80 percent or more of their building costs paid by the public;
*9, or nearly one-third of the 28, had 100 percent of their building costs paid by the public.
Those with 100 percent taxpayer financing were Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis; Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati; Ralph Wilson stadium in Buffalo (a rehab); Raymond James Stadium in Tampa; Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego; Oakland Coliseum in Oakland; Everbank Field in Jacksonville; Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis; and Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
